Default will satellite internet ever compete w/ cable and dsl?

i know the cost of securing spectrum is prohibitively expensive, will
this cost go down or level out as more ppl sign on, reducing the
prices? i want to ditch my cable tv, but will get reamed on the
internet price if i do so, seeing as there's no good competition, i'm
kind of stuck with cable tv or paying $60 month for cable internet.
cable needs some competition.
