View Full Version : Origo ASR-8400 router and p2p

Hi,
I've got an Origo ASR 8400 router and I have also got a pci ADSL modem.
When I download files in p2p programs (usually Overnet and Torrentstorm) I
get great download speeds with the pci modem but really poor ones with the
Origo even with the same files. I've done speed tests with the Origo and
the results are great so I seem to only have issues with p2p. I've done all
the recommended configuration changes with the Origo to make it more secure
but are there any settings that I could alter to make it perform a (lot)
better with p2p?
Cheers.

Some people report better results opening the ports used by bittorrent.

"I'm behind a firewall/NAT, can I use BitTorrent?
Yes, but you will get better performance if other peers can connect to
you. By default, BitTorrent listens on port 6881, trying incrementially
higher ports if it's unable to bind, and gives up after 6889 (the port
range is configurable). It's up to you to figure out how to poke a hole
in your firewall/NAT."

Also, by their nature, torrent files can speed up as well as slow down -
sometimes stopping and resuming will connect you to different seeds /
peers who may not be throttling their connection as hard.
